"The cypress-paneled library of Michael Recanati and Ira Statfeld’s East Hampton, New York, house, which was designed by architect Frank Greenwald and decorated by Sharon Simonaire; the Chesterfield sofa and the leather pouf are by Simonaire, and the armchair is by Lucca & Co." (November 2004) Again, a round library, with windows alternating with bookcases. An arresting room.

A library in a French-style house. Bookcases run all the way up to very high ceilings, at least 12 feet high, and a ladder would be necessary to access the higher shelves (although one is not shown). Very traditional furnishings and decorator book sets finish the space.

A round library in Stockholm, Sweden. The apartment belongs to a sculpture artist and the library has very clean, circular lines. Just off the kitchen, several curved steps lead down to the level of the library, where a single Le Corbusier chair is the focus of the space, and the curved lines of the bookcases are broken by several small windows admitting abundant natural light.

A small library with bookcases built almost to the sloping ceiling, leaving a wedge-shaped space above that has been used for additional book storage. A framed painting has been hung directly in front of the shelves in the English manner. A dark brown, round wood pedestal table with deeply-carved base and red carpet and chairs furnish the space.

Black-lacquered, long bookshelves without any middle supports run the length of the walls, contrasting wit the light walls and furnishings in this stylish, modern library. The dotted crown molding above is quite interesting.

An attic library in an unidentified Gothic-style house. One of the niches in the vaulted roof has been lined with bookshelves that narrow as they get closer to the point of the vault. Comfy, traditional furnishings and beautiful wallpaper or stencils make this a nice corner library spot.

House Beautiful: 500 Sensational Ways to Create Your Ideal Home; Sloan

A classical-looking English-style library/sitting room. White-painted, crown molding-topped bookcases presumably flank the fireplace and a carved-wood library desk hosts a beautiful classical bust of a goddess. The window is topped with an ornate pelmet and a baroque gilded frieze runs around the top of the wall. Traditional English furnishings and objects make the room an elegant, comfortable space.

A beautiful wood-paneled library with many carved details: bookcases with classical pilasters, dentil cornice moldings and a bay window holding a desk. A comfortable couch and antique side chairs beckon readers. Very nice.

A library with bookcases outlined with fluted pilasters and painted sage-green. Two very comfortable-looking wing chairs in a classic toile fabric and a soft, luxurious green window shade, together with small side tables, furnish the room nicely.

This is the Yellow Library in Wanda's house in the Philippines. It comprises a wall of very nice white-painted, glass door-fronted bookcases, as well as some lovely and comfortable furnishings. Many of the standard library furniture and accessories have been included here: globe, busts, interesting bookends, wing chair and footstool, sheepskin rug and writing desk. The library contains about 650 books.

For an overview of how an ordinary bedroom was converted into this library, see here. The description may be helpful to anyone planning to make a library in their own house.
