This library is in the popular musician Sting's house in England. It is an incredibly beautiful, classically-inspired space. The dark-stained wood bookcases and paneling, the ornate ceiling shapes, the curving stairs, the classical busts and frieze, all speak of a traditional English house modeled after "the ancients." Very nice.
One hesitates to classify Adolf Hitler as a "celebrity," but nonetheless he is a well-known personage, even after sixty-five years. This photo is of the study in his mountain retreat, Berghof. The date of the photo is unknown, but a black and white photo published in a magazine in 1938 looks almost identical to this one in terms of furnishings and layout. The magazine article in Homes and Gardens reads: "Then he takes you into his library where you note that quite half of the books are on history, painting, architecture and music." In addition to his study, a smaller "Library" room is shown on the floor plan of Berghof, no picture is readily available. Altogether, in his three residences, Hitler amassed a library of 16,000 volumes and was known to read a book every night. A book, "Hitler's Private Library" by Timothy Ryback, has been published detailing the surviving works owned by him, and the possible influence they might have had on his life and opinions.
