Building our library:
The first exciting stage in construction (after all the planning, that is): digging!
More digging and large tree stump removal (our excavator broke his backhoe on the large stump in forefront -- it was the size of a VW when he got the whole root ball out!)
After digging comes foundation pouring...
Removal of the windows on the west side of the house (where the addition will be attached). The date stamps on the last two photos are erroneous.
Starting the framing... (with cheery tulips in front).
About four weeks later, and everything is enclosed: roof on, siding on, windows in.
Now we move inside, where heating ducts and electric wires are installed and insulation goes in.
The entrance to the existing house is opened up (where the old window seat used to be).
Drywall done, paint is next...
Stove surround tiles are set, wood door and window frames have been stained. Stove installed next.
Bookshelves being installed... Hallelulah!
The room is essentially done. Look at that pretty wood-burning stove... All that's left is cleaning, furnishings and moving in my books from storage and other shelves (which required a detailed plan in itself).
